Energy Efficiency Program

Increasing energy efficiency is the simplest and least expensive way to reduce emissions and pollutants from energy generation while also increasing Utah's competetiveness, supporting job creation, and lowering energy bills.

With energy demand increasing at over 2% per year, energy efficiency is fundamental to meeting Utah's growing energy needs in a balanced, clean, reliable, and cost effiective manner.

Utah Clean Energy's Energy Efficiency Program lies at the core of advancing a new energy economy that values the efficient use of finite energy resources, in addition to clean energy technologies, and sustainable renewable energy.

What is energy efficiency?  Energy efficiency reduces demand for energy of any source, such as electricity, natural gas, and transportation fuel, without affecting the services provided.  Common energy efficiency measures include hundreds of technologies and processes for homes, businesses, industry and other sectors.  The cost of these energy efficiency measures is more than offset by the resulting energy savings.

Our Energy Efficiency Program works on numerous fronts to promote a better understanding and wider acceptance of energy efficiency as one of Utah's highest priority resources.

Community Energy Efficiency Outreach

In order to increase energy literacy throughout the state, UCE provides community presentations and informational home energy audits.  UCE works in partnership with Home Energy Raters, faith groups and other community organizations to provide community presentations about the simple, inexpensive and accessible energy efficiency steps that the community can take today.

Partnerships to promote Energy Efficiency

Utah Clean Energy builds diverse partnerships in the public and private sector to advance energy efficiency.  Currently, UCE is partnering with the Utah Governor’s staff, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Utah Geological Survey’s State Energy Program, the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project as well as organizations such as the Utah Homeowners Association, and Utah’s schools, colleges and universities.

Through our work with the Governor’s staff, the EPA's Clean Energy-Environment State Partnership and the Southwest Energy Efficieny Project, UCE has contributed to an informative report describing the significant benefits of energy efficiency in Utah. To request copies of the report, “Energy Efficiency: Utah’s High Priority Resource”, please send a request to UCE's office by clicking on the 'Contact Us' link above. Utah Energy Efficiency Strategy

In April, 2006 Governor Huntsman released a comprehensive energy efficiency plan "Advancing Energy Efficiency in the State" with a goal of goal of increasing energy efficiency 20% by 2015, across all sectors. In May 2006, the Governor further issued an executive order on improving energy efficiency.  Utah Clean Energy is proud to assist the Governor’s Office in analyzing how to meet these ambitious energy efficiency objectives through the Utah Energy Efficiency Strategy Report.

The Utah Energy Efficiency Strategy Report evaluates 23 policy and program options to help achieve the Governor’s goal and has been developed in partnership with the Governor’s Office, Utah Clean Energy, the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and the Intermountain CHP Center.

This report was released on October 16, 2007 and will be presented to Governor Huntsman, the Utah Legislature, the Public Service Commission, and other stakeholders.

Energy Efficiency Policy

Utah Clean Energy works with Utah and regional lawmakers to research and advance policies that enable more efficient use of energy in Utah and the West.

In the 2007 Utah Legislative Session, UCE assisted with the passage of legislation that will help increase energy efficiency in Utah for many years to come.

Utility Energy Efficiency

Through participation in utility advisory groups and through regular communication with state utility regulators, Utah Clean Energy advocates for the adoption of innovative efficiency programs that encourage the conservation and wise use of electricity and natural gas saving both money and fuel, and benefiting public health.  Read more about UCE's Regulatory Advocacy here.
