Energy Efficiency Incentives

 

Residents

          Incentives available for Energy Star qualified models of appliances and lighting including 

          clothes washer, refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioning units, water heaters, lighting

          fixtures and ceiling fans. Incentives are also available for home improvement, heating and

          cooling including insulation, windows, duct sealing and insulation. Savings range from $20

          per appliance to $150.

           Provides incentives for the installation of high efficiency furnace, water heaters and

           clothes dryers. Incentive amount ranges from $30 to $300.

          Can be used by homeowners to finance a variety of energy efficiency measures, including  

          renewable energy technologies, in a new or existing home. The federal government

          supports these loans by insuring them through FHA or VA programs.

          Tax credits of 30% of costs for a renewable energy system in a residence or residential

          unit, with a maximum credit for residence of $2,000.

           The individual income tax credit for residential systems is 25% of the reasonable installed

           system costs up to a maximum credit of $2,000 per residential unit.

 

Builders

          Single-family and multi-family incentives are available in the form of Base Packages with

          additional Plus Measures. Buildings must meet 2007 ENERGY STAR specifications and

          require 13 to 14 SEER HVAC equipment. The incentives range from $10 to $750 per

          installation.

           Incentives for furnace, water heaters and whole house certification, $50-$800.

           $2,000 incentive for homes 50% above code and $1,000 for homes 30% above code.

           At least 1/5 of savings must come from building envelope improvements.

 

           Exemption from sales tax on renewable energy generation equipment 20 kW or greater

 

The University of Utah Health and Sciences Building is a model of energy efficiency.  The 120,000-square foot building uses the amount of energy that a 2,000-square foot building would.

 

Commercial

          Offers engineering services and cash incentives for retrofits or new construction to help

          upgrade to the most energy-efficient systems available. The FinAnswer Express provides

          incentives and technical expertise for lighting, motors and HVAC equipment.

          Incentives available for a wide range of appliances with specific efficiency and other         

          requirements.

  • Federal Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Tax Deduction

    A tax deduction of between $0.30 - $1.80 per square foot is available to owners of new or existing buildings who install (1) interior lighting; (2) building envelope, or (3) heating, cooling, ventilation, or hot water systems that reduce the building’s total energy and power cost by 50% or more

     

  • Federal Renewable Energy Tax Credits

    10% of costs for a renewable energy system in a commercial building or structure, maximum credit of $50,000
