Utah Industries of the Future

The Utah Industries of the Future (UIOF) partnership has been working with Utah and regional industries for the past five years in an effort to help energy-intensive industries identify opportunities that boost energy efficiency.

We have led a range of outreach activities, such as workshops, trainings, and conferences, to engage targeted industrial, utility, universities, professional associations, non-profit clean energy and environmental groups and other partners.

The Utah partnership has had significant contact and interaction with many of the “top 5,000 plants” located in the state.  These plants account for 50% of the industrial energy use in the nation.

The UIOF team will work to engage communities, utilities, industries, local governments, and project partners.  Additionally, we will work to educate Utah’s new gubernatorial administration about the benefits of energy efficiency, including its ability to boost productivity and the competitiveness of Utah’s industries.

Project Goals:

The overall goal of the UIOF project is to effectively utilize diverse partnerships, education and outreach tools to drive energy efficiency projects and practices at very large industrial facilities throughout the state of Utah.

The UIOF has identified the following targeted objectives:

  • Identify and engage the top energy intensive plants in Utah, targeting industrial plants with annual energy bills over $2 million

  • Conduct training classes on software tools and energy management best practices

  • Work one-on-one with industries to facilitate energy efficiency practices by offering on-site training

  • Help industries identify funding sources, including Rocky Mountain Power’s energy efficiency studies and incentives, to implement energy efficiency measures

2006 Project Partners:

  • United States Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Industrial Technology Program

  • Utah Geological Survey State Energy Program

  • etc Group, Inc.

  • Rocky Mountain Power

  • University of Utah Engineering Experiment Station (UEES)

  • Utah Clean Energy

  • American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)

  • Utah Association of Energy Users
